Industry News: Changes to Narcotics Export Law
On Wednesday 17th June, the Australian Parliament passed the Export Control Amendment (Certificate of Narcotics Exports) Bill 2020. According to a report by ABC News (which you can read in full by clicking here) this legal amendment means that hemp growers and processors can now tap into potentially lucrative overseas markets by exporting legitimate narcotic products.
The Australian Industrial Hemp Alliance (AIHA) - a national industry group of which the THA are now an Affiliate Member - was consulted on this particular piece of legislation, which President James Vosper said was a great step forward for the industry. Both the AIHA and THA actively support any and all changes to existing laws to allow for whole-of-plant use with hemp. We know that there are huge benefits that will flow through to our growers, processors, community members and the environment as the hemp industry is freed up to develop markets in a far wider range of sectors beyond producing high-quality grain for food.
